Original British Quad (30 X 40 Inches)
One of the essential WWII genre film posters. "Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957) was a massive success, garnering a total of 7 Oscars! Telling the tale of the construction of the Burma railroad, the film merely hinted at the brutality of the treatment of allied POW's & indigenous workers who worked on the project. Nonetheless, the film was blessed with some great acting (Alec Guinness), a stirring soundtrack (Malcolm Arnold) & some gorgeous photography (it was actually filmed in Sri Lanka). Unfortunately, the 1st release Quad is so rare that it retails for thousands of Pounds. The film was re-released over the years a number of times but what we have here is the 1st re-release poster, c' 1962-63. This is the only re-release "Kwai" poster to boast the same artwork design & a full colour palette, the only difference between this & the 1st release being the text in white writing at the top of the poster. Given the rarity of debut release "Kwais" & the almost identical appearance of the 1st re-release, these posters are collectable in their own right too.
