UK Quad poster for the Richard Burton-Clint Eastwood WWII thriller "Where Eagles Dare", this being the first release poster (without the "CIC" text bottom right).
The poster provides good images of the two charismatic leads from this film based on an Alistair MacLean novel. For Eastwood, this role was a welcome break from a slew of earlier (and successful) spaghetti westerns where he played the heroic man of mystery. Now considered to be one of the classic WWII films. This is the FIRST release version of this Quad without the additional "CIC" text to the left of the MGM logo in the lower right corner (the examples with this added text are later re-release posters).
A crack team of Allied soldiers stages a daring rescue during World War II. A U.S. general is being held captive in an imposing castle fort, high in the Bavarian Alps. The audacious plan calls for Lt. Schaffer (Clint Eastwood), Maj. Smith (Richard Burton) and other operatives to parachute down wearing Nazi disguises. They'll penetrate the mountain outpost while undercover operatives assist them from within. But their mission changes when they discover that there's a traitor in their midst.
