Long considered a masterpiece of the cinema, this remains Federico Fellini's greatest film, winning the 1960 Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or. It was also nominated for three Oscars (including Best Director) but won for Best Costumes. The film is made up of several chapters or sequences instead of linear structure, and is tied together by the journalist Marcello (Marcello Mastroianni) and his journey for happiness through Rome as a moral wasteland. This ushered in a whole new way of filmmaking and made Fellini the star of European cinema.
