Where Eagles Dare (1968)
Few war films have aged into such pure entertainment as Where Eagles Dare. Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood lead a commando raid on a Nazi mountain fortress, played on screen by the real Hohenwerfen Castle in the Austrian Alps. The famous fight on top of a cable car was staged under Yakima Canutt, the Hollywood stunt legend who ran the film's second unit, and it remains one of the great action set pieces of the decade.
US One Sheets of the 1960s were sent out to cinemas folded, and this example has been linen-backed, which gives the paper strength and smooths away the fold lines. Vibrant colours and bold design make it a striking way to own the film, with Burton and Eastwood billed together at the moment Eastwood was becoming a star far beyond the Western.
