Dracula (1958)
This is a rare 1964 re-release country-of-origin UK Quad poster.
It's difficult to overestimate the significance of Hammer's 1958 production of Dracula. Far more so than its predecessor, The Curse of Frankenstein, it set the tone for Hammer's movie output over the next two decades (1956-1976) when British films, or at least British horror films, were among the best, most admired and most imitated in the world. The film made a star of Christopher Lee and, even today, he is widely regarded as the definitive Dracula. This is a rare 1964 re-release quad for this 1958 film utilising many of the design components and tag lines of the first release posters.
England's Hammer Studios brought the horror film genre back from the dead with this film and its counterpart, Curse of Frankenstein (1957). Both pictures, shot in the faux-Gothic style that would become Hammer's trademark, featured future superstars Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, who would become to horror fans of the 1960s what Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi were to moviegoers of an earlier era.
