Dark Knight, The (2008)

This highly unusual wilding advance poster for The Dark Knight (Style H) is an exceptional surviving example of a format almost never found intact. Wilding posters were designed for street-level advertising, pasted to construction hoardings, boarded-up storefronts, and other public surfaces, and were typically destroyed quickly by weather, removal, or being pasted over. As a result, their survival rate is close to zero.

This piece, rolled and in superb condition, is remarkably rare. Its chaotic collage of Joker cards, vandalistic scrawls (“Why so serious?”, “It’s all part of the plan”), and the distorted image of Batman perfectly captures the film’s psychological tension and the anarchic presence of Heath Ledger’s Joker. A striking and collectible artifact from one of modern cinema’s most influential films.
