To Catch A Thief (1955)
An exceptionally rare and magnificent original Italian 4 Foglio featuring superb artwork by celebrated Italian poster artist Ercole Brini. His beautiful illustration captures Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in one of the most famous romantic scenes from Alfred Hitchcock’s To Catch a Thief, with Kelly wearing a dazzling diamond necklace. The mysterious black cat in the lower corner is a clever reference to Grant’s character, John Robie, the retired jewel thief once known as “The Cat.”
The artwork recreates the film’s celebrated hotel-suite seduction scene, when Grace Kelly’s Frances Stevens invites Robie to watch the fireworks over the French Riviera. Knowing his past as a jewel thief, she deliberately tempts him with her diamond necklace. When Robie reveals that the jewels are imitation, she replies with the unforgettable line, “Well, I’m not.” The couple kiss as fireworks explode outside. One of Hitchcock’s most playful and romantic moments!
Released in 1955, To Catch a Thief brought together Cary Grant and Grace Kelly for their only film together. Set against the glamorous French Riviera, the film is a wonderful combination of romance, suspense, exquisite jewellery and 1950s Hollywood elegance.
