Dumbo (1941) was a pivotal success for Walt Disney, released at a time when the studio desperately needed a hit after the massive expenses of Pinocchio and Fantasia. At just 64 minutes, it is one of Disney's shortest feature films, but its emotional core, the story of a ridiculed circus elephant who discovers his giant ears allow him to fly, made it an instant classic.

The film is celebrated for its watercolour style backgrounds and for having some of the most surreal and imaginative sequences in animation history, most notably the "Pink Elephants on Parade".
