Indiscreet (1958)

This original folded US One Sheet poster issued for the 1958 theatrical release of Stanley Donen’s sophisticated romantic comedy, Indiscreet. Eschewing the busy montage style typical of the era, the poster employs a striking minimalist design, utilizing a vast, moody expanse of midnight blue to make the stark white typography dramatically pop. 

The production marked a highly anticipated reunion for Grant and Bergman, who hadn't shared the screen since Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious twelve years prior. To capture their undeniable chemistry while navigating the era's rigid Hays Code censorship, director Stanley Donen famously engineered one of classic Hollywood's most clever visual workarounds. During a transatlantic phone call scene, Donen utilised a brilliantly synchronised split-screen effect to flawlessly align their separate beds, creating the distinct, suggestive illusion that the unmarried couple was playfully sharing the same mattress, successfully sneaking the intimate gag right past the conservative censor boards.
