North By Northwest (1966r)
Original 1966 Re-Release US Lobby Card #2.
This original US Lobby Card was issued for the 1966 theatrical re-release of Alfred Hitchcock’s landmark thriller, North by Northwest. The vividly tinted photographic still highlights the undeniable chemistry between Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, capturing their steamy, clandestine embrace within the tight confines of a Chicago-bound sleeper berth on the 20th Century Limited.
The intense romantic dynamic depicted here famously culminated in one of classic Hollywood's most notoriously cheeky visual double entendres. To bypass strict Production Code censors who heavily monitored on-screen intimacy, Hitchcock deliberately concluded the film by smash-cutting directly from the couple's passionate final embrace in a similar train berth to a roaring locomotive plunging deep into a pitch-black tunnel. A masterstroke of suggestive editing that the director gleefully cited as his most "impudent" ending.
