Return Of The Jedi (1983)

Original British Quad (30 X 40 Inches)
£1,975.00

An original 1983 Advance British Quad for Return of the Jedi, unfolded.

Here's one to tell your friends: the film was almost called Revenge of the Jedi. That was its title for most of the production, until George Lucas changed it just weeks before release, reportedly because a true Jedi would never seek revenge. Return of the Jedi went on to close the original trilogy in spectacular style, with Jabba the Hutt's palace, the speeder bike chase through the forests of Endor, the Ewoks, the battle of the second Death Star and, at last, Darth Vader's redemption. It was the biggest film of 1983.

This advance design is pure anticipation. Vader's helmet looms out of a blood-red sky above the silhouettes of Luke and his father locked in their final lightsaber duel, with just "The Saga Continues" and "In Your Galaxy Soon" to tease what was coming. Look closely at the copyright line in the lower margin and you'll see "© Lucasfilm Ltd. 1982": this poster was printed the year before the film opened, sent out to British cinemas months ahead of release. Advance quads were produced in much smaller numbers than the main release posters and most were thrown away once the regular posters arrived, so an unfolded copy like this is a real prize for Star Wars collectors, and a stunning statement on any wall.
