This shot brings the main trio together: Mowgli, the "man-cub," flanked by his two very different guardians. On one side you have Baloo, the easy-going, fun-loving bear who wants to teach Mowgli the "Bare Necessities." On the other is Bagheera, the wise and serious panther who just wants to keep Mowgli safe. It’s a perfect visual of the tug of war Mowgli feels between having fun and growing up.
This film was a huge turning point for Disney. It was the last movie Walt Disney personally oversaw before he passed away, and he wanted it to be all about fun and personality.
