Sean Connery's James Bond and Claudine Auger as Domino on the life raft in the film's closing moments, waiting for the skyhook to lift them clear of the sea. The rescue was no fantasy: the Fulton recovery system was a real US military method for plucking people from the ground by aircraft.
Thunderball was the film that made Bond a global phenomenon, winning the Oscar for Special Visual Effects and taking more at the box office than any Bond film before it. Raquel Welch was reportedly considered for Domino before Auger took the role.
