Out Of The Past (1947)

Out of the Past was adapted by Daniel Mainwaring from his own novel Build My Gallows High, the title under which the film was released in Britain. Robert Mitchum's weary private eye, Jane Greer's lethal femme fatale and a young Kirk Douglas in one of his first screen roles made it a cornerstone of film noir, shot in velvet shadow by Nicholas Musuraca for director Jacques Tourneur. Hollywood remade it in 1984 as Against All Odds, with Greer returning in a supporting role.

This is the original 1947 US One Sheet. Posters from the classic noir cycle are among the most fiercely pursued in the hobby, and this title stands near the head of the list. It remains folded, as it was sent to cinemas.
