2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

An astronaut in a bright orange spacesuit walks towards the camera down the gleaming white, hexagonal corridor of the spacecraft. It's one of the most iconic images in all of science fiction: clean, symmetrical and utterly futuristic, and pure Stanley Kubrick.
2001: A Space Odyssey was made a year before the Moon landing, yet its vision of space travel looked so convincing that it still feels modern today. Kubrick worked with NASA advisers and leading designers to get every detail right, and the film won the Oscar for Special Visual Effects, the only Academy Award he ever personally won. Sets like this corridor went on to shape how spaceships looked on screen for decades, from Star Wars to Alien.
Front-of-House Cards were displayed in British cinema foyers and, as the printed text in the margin says, were the property of National Screen Service, to be returned after the film's run. They were never meant to survive, which makes a clean, full-colour card with this image a real find.
