Godfather, The (1972)
An original 1972 US One Sheet from the film's first release, professionally linen-backed and ready to frame.
Francis Ford Coppola's adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel turned the gangster film into an epic about family, power and the price of the American Dream. It won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Marlon Brando, and more than fifty years on it remains the benchmark every crime drama is measured against.
The American One Sheet takes the opposite approach to the famous British "red face" design. Instead of Brando's portrait, it relies almost entirely on S. Neil Fujita's puppeteer's-hand logo, adapted from the cover of Puzo's novel, set against a stark black field. It's a quiet, confident piece of design that tells you everything about the film without showing a single actor.
