Casino Royale (1967)
A fantastic original poster for the wonderfully eccentric 1967 spoof of Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale, with superb Robert McGinnis artwork and the brilliant tagline: “Casino Royale is too much… for one James Bond!” The psychedelic painted Bond girl, complete with 007 motifs and pistols, perfectly captures the irreverent spirit of the Swinging Sixties. McGinnis was also responsible for artwork used on several of the classic Sean Connery-era Bond campaigns.
Loosely based on Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel, the film assembled an extraordinary cast including Peter Sellers, Ursula Andress, David Niven, Orson Welles and Woody Allen. Its Burt Bacharach soundtrack produced Dusty Springfield’s “The Look of Love,” which was nominated for an Academy Award. A wonderfully distinctive piece of 1960s Bond history, part spy spoof, part Pop Art and unmistakably of its era.
