E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial hit people right in the feelings and basically reset what a blockbuster could be. It showed that a huge, crowd-pleasing movie didn’t need nonstop action, it could be quiet, emotional, and all about connection. It also locked in Spielberg’s style and became a touchstone for how kids, friendship, and wonder show up in movies.

This still shows Henry Thomas as Elliott in one of the film’s most intimate moments, gently reaching out to E.T. That small, careful gesture is the whole movie in a nutshell: ordinary childhood innocence mixed with something strange and deeply emotional.
