1983 was the year of the Battle of the Bonds, with Roger Moore going head to head against Sean Connery's unofficial return in Never Say Never Again. It almost did not happen that way: Moore's sixth outing was so uncertain that the American actor James Brolin was screen-tested as his replacement. Moore came back, and the official Bond took the larger share at the box office.
