The Big Boss (1971)

Very rare original UK cinema quad poster for the 1971 Kung Fu movie 'The Big Boss' starring Bruce Lee. This Hong Kong martial arts movie was Bruce Lee's first starring role in a major film. It was produced by legendary Producer Raymond Chow and his Golden Harvest film production company. The Big Boss premiered on the 21st October 1971 in Hong Kong and quickly became a massive success all over the Far East. However, the film was slower to be released in the West due to several factors, including perceived lack of public interest, and then later, censorship and dubbing issues. It was subsequently re-dubbed and released in the U.S. in 1973 as 'Fists of Fury' (not to be confused with Lee's second major film 'Fist of Fury' - no "s" after "Fist"). There was a very limited showing of the film in its original Mandarin in Chinese cinemas in Britain in 1972, but the first major national U.K. release of The Big Boss was in early 1974. This quad poster is from that first major U.K. release. There are two versions of the main quads for 'The Big Boss', the one with the design as shown here, and a later release version which has the addition of a flying kicking Lee on the right-hand side. The version being offered here is the earlier original version, and it is also by far the rarest of the two versions.
