The Godfather (1972) - FRAMED

An original 1972 Paramount Pictures Production Still #GF-5042-16A, framed.

Marlon Brando as Don Vito Corleone in black tie, a tabby cat curled in his hands, from the opening scene in his study. The cat wasn't in the script: Coppola found it wandering the Paramount lot and dropped it into Brando's lap, and it purred so loudly that some of Brando's dialogue had to be re-recorded.

It became one of cinema's great happy accidents, and this is now the most famous portrait of the Don: tender and menacing at once. Studio stills were working tools, mailed to newspapers and magazines for printing and then binned, so originals of the key images are highly prized.
