Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) is standing in a mortuary, looking down at the bullet-riddled body of his hot-headed eldest son, Sonny (James Caan), who was just ambushed by a rival family. Vito has called in a favour from an undertaker, begging him to use all his skills to hide the gruesome wounds so Sonny's mother doesn't have to see what they did to him. It's the moment the untouchable Don finally breaks.
Widely considered one of the greatest movies ever made, The Godfather (1972) completely changed how gangster films were made. It took us inside the mob to show the complex, deeply loyal family dynamics. It’s less about organized crime and more about the dark side of the American Dream.
