The Shining (1980)
An original 1980 British Quad for Stanley Kubrick's The Shining, folded as issued.
"Heeere's Johnny!" Jack Nicholson bursting through the splintered door is one of the most famous images in horror, and the line wasn't even in the script: Nicholson improvised it from Johnny Carson's TV introduction. Kubrick got through around 60 doors filming the scene. Stephen King famously hated the film, but the Overlook Hotel, Room 237 and those twins in the corridor have haunted audiences ever since, and The Shining is now hailed as one of the greatest horror films ever made.
This quad captures it all: Nicholson's manic grin, Shelley Duvall's scream and the knife in her hand, under the tagline "The tide of terror that swept America IS HERE". With its UK "X" certificate beside the title, it was printed to be pasted up in British cinemas and thrown away, never meant to survive. Today it's a tangible piece of film history, and a wonderfully chilling conversation starter on any wall.
