Godfather: Part II, The (1974)

An original 1974 US Advance One Sheet, folded as issued and ready for linen-backing.

With The Godfather Part II, Coppola did the near impossible: he made a sequel that matched the original. It won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, the first sequel ever to do so, and Robert De Niro won an Oscar for playing the young Vito Corleone.

This advance poster promised audiences the film was coming for Christmas 1974. Advance posters were used for only a short window before release and then replaced, which is why so few were kept and why collectors prize them so highly.

Its yellow-and-black design is one of the most striking of the decade: Pacino's Michael standing defiant beneath the famous puppeteer's hand.
