Grease (1978)

Photo Still (8 X 10 Inches)
£115.00

An original 1978 Paramount Pictures Publicity Still #GR-C-5353, unframed.

John Travolta as Danny Zuko leads the T-Birds in a high-kicking, perfectly choreographed pose around their souped-up convertible. This is "Greased Lightnin'", the garage fantasy number where a battered old car becomes a gleaming hot rod, and one of the most electric moments in movie musical history. Fun fact for fans: on stage the song belonged to Kenickie, but for the film it was handed to Travolta, who was fresh from Saturday Night Fever and the biggest star in the world.

Grease went on to become the highest-grossing movie musical of its era, and its soundtrack was one of the best-selling albums of all time. Nearly fifty years on, it's still the ultimate 1950s nostalgia trip, endlessly rewatched, sung along to and dressed up as.

Stills like this were made to be sent out to newspapers and magazines, used once and thrown away, so surviving first-release copies are a real piece of the film's story. An original 1978 black and white still, straight from the Paramount publicity department.
