Jimmy’s intense, forward-fixed gaze reflects the amphetamine-driven tunnel vision of the Mod lifestyle.  Produced exclusively for overseas theatrical promotion, these export lobby cards were issued in limited numbers and are considerably scarcer than standard UK publicity material.

The relentless nighttime cruising depicted in Quadrophenia is inseparable from the specific chemical fuel that powered the 1960s Mod movement: amphetamines. Nicknamed "leapers," "blues," or "purple hearts," these cheap prescription pills were the absolute lifeblood of the subculture, allowing working-class teenagers to clock out of exhausting manual labor on Friday afternoon and dance, ride, and posture relentlessly until Monday morning.
