The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)
This Original 1968 UK Quad is widely regarded as one of the definitive Steve McQueen posters! The Thomas Crown Affair cemented his status as “The King of Cool”, pairing his effortless screen presence with Faye Dunaway at the absolute height of her career. The film was both a commercial and critical success on its 1968 release.
For the UK campaign, something exceptional was required, and London-based Italian artist Arnaldo Putzu delivered a striking Pop Art–influenced design. The bold, clashing colours and graphic figures perfectly capture the film’s fashionable, late-1960s sophistication.
Although the film won multiple awards, its sole Academy Award was for Best Song “The Windmills of Your Mind”, composed by Michel Legrand and sung by Noel Harrison. The distributors clearly sought to capitalise on the song’s success, referencing it twice on the poster via the original yellow promotional stickers, both present here.
An increasingly scarce, totally original and unrestored example of one of the most stylish and culturally significant posters of the 1960s — essential for McQueen collectors and lovers of Pop Art cinema design.
