Sound Of Music, The (1965)
The glorious British quad film poster from 1965 complete with excellent painting of Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer together with the family. The happy atmosphere of this highly successful musical is captured in the magnificent artwork with a background featuring fine detail of Saltzberg and the Swiss Alps. Film posters for "The Sound of Music" were used again and again and again due to the box office popularity and it is rare to find early examples. Even rarer is this one which is the "TODD-AO Colour De Luxe" produced in even smaller quantities! Printed in England by Stafford & Co. Ltd of Nottingham & London.
This was a true "blockbuster" garnering a total of ten Oscar nominations, winning five including "Best Picture". The poster illustration was by Terpning, the Quad re-formatting Terpning's artwork for the American poster campaign. This is a poster that has become increasingly difficult to find in recent years & this example is the first release version from 1965.
